For the second year in a row, we are excited to be hosting Qima Coffee's Best of Yemen auction tasting!
Yemen is one of the legendary coffee producing origins, and often contested with Ethiopia as the home of cultivated coffee. It is where the concept of drinking coffee became normalised and was for a while the sole exporter of coffee. Growing coffee in Yemen is often generational for producers and has a lineage of up to 500 years. During the 1700s, colonial powers smuggled coffee out of the country and grew them in their own colonial systems, eventually outcompeting Yemeni exports and reducing there margin to a minuscule amount.
In modern times, coffee production has essentially ceased as it has been neglected and become less profitable. This boxset is the expression of those who love coffee and prize the quality of Yemeni coffee!
