Why Smells Bring Back Memories: A Sensory Science Lecture + Odor Lab
WHY CAN ONE SMELL BRING BACK A PERSON, PLACE OR ENTIRE PERIOD OF YOUR LIFE?
Join Bri Muhammad cosmetic chemist and applied sensory science educator for a 90-minute experiential lecture-workshop exploring smell, memory and the brain.
You’ll smell three mystery specimens and document what you:
DETECT → IDENTIFY → ASSOCIATE → REMEMBER
Then, we’ll uncover what happens between your nose and brain, why smells can feel so personal and why “smell goes directly to memory” isn’t the complete scientific story.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
• An accessible sensory science lecture
• The guided Before You Name It odor-response lab
• Three mystery odor specimens
• Your personal response materials
• Complimentary refreshments
WHAT YOU’LL LEAVE WITH
You’ll create and take home your own Sensory Memory Record—a personal record of what you detected, identified, associated and remembered while experiencing the three mystery odors.
No science background is required—just bring your curiosity.
Please note: This is an experiential sensory science lecture-workshop, not a perfume-making class.
