Global Cities, Local Cultures: Learning from Seoul

When: October 16-17, 2026

Event Description

You are invited to Seoul for the East Asia Symposium! This collaborative project is hosted by AIA South Korea and supported by AIA Chapters, Sections and members across the region, including Japan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei and Beijing.

Join us for a two-day symposium exploring the theme of ‘Global Cities, Local Cultures'. How can cities grow and modernize while preserving their architectural heritage and cultural identity? What can we learn from Seoul, a city where rapid development exists in tension with cultural preservation?

This symposium brings together architects, urban planners, and design leaders from across East Asia and beyond for a day of talks and panel discussions, followed by a second day of guided city tours.
