The Chris Wabich/Craig Cammell Big Band

Craig Cammell is a composer, saxophonist, and bass clarinetist who is commonly observed as an artist with quirky compositional sensibilities and an energetic playing style. He has been an active member in the Los Angeles music scene since 2010. After graduating with his BM in performance from California State University Northridge, Craig proceeded to construct his own creative musical/artistic outlets.

​Influenced by a diverse range of musicians, Craig draws inspiration from artists such as Charlie Hunter, John Ellis, Cannonball Adderley, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Will Vinson, Thad Jones, and Joe Henderson. These legendary figures have shaped his musical development and helped mold his unique approach to composition and performance.

​Craig's compositions reflect a fusion of these influences, blending elements of jazz, funk, and contemporary styles. With over 30 pieces of big band music to his credit, he showcases his talent for crafting intricate and engaging arrangements for large ensembles. His compositions captivate listeners with their inventive melodies, harmonies, and rhythmic complexities.

​Leading his quartet, Craig recently released its debut album in November of 2022, showcasing his original compositions and distinctive playing style. Additionally, as the director of the Craig Cammell Large Band, a 17-piece ensemble, he orchestrates dynamic performances that breathe new life into his compositions.

​Throughout his career, Craig has collaborated with influential artists such as Chris Wabich, Will Brahm, Aaron Janik, Joey Sellers, Colin Cook, and Jerry Pinter, among others. His contributions to the music scene have earned him recognition and have established him as a versatile and accomplished musician.
