Stand Up Level One: Writing and Performing Stand Up Comedy
Write, Refine, and Perform Your Original Stand-Up Comedy Set
Learn the art and craft of stand-up comedy in this seven-week course from Stomping Ground Comedy. Whether you're a first-time performer or a seasoned storyteller, this class will guide you through the fundamentals of writing, revising, and performing your own original material.
Over seven weeks, you’ll develop a five-minute stand-up set that you’ll perform in a showcase for family and friends. Along the way, you’ll learn how to find your comedic voice, refine your material, and bring your jokes to life on stage.
In this course, you’ll explore:
- What stand-up comedy is—and what it isn’t
- Joke structure and timing
- Developing strong premises, metaphors, and similes
- Building confidence on stage
- Using act-outs and physicality to enhance your set
- Creating a cohesive set list
- Pitching and testing new material
- Writing and performing your original five-minute set
This is a seven-week course held Tuesdays, 7-9:30pm, beginning October 20. The course instructor is Sara Jackson. This class skips 11/24 for Thanksgiving Break.
