From Order to Expression

From Order to Expression

Overview

A design history lesson, tracing four decades of the Swiss Style as it evolved, from the collection of Fred Murrell, AIGA CO Fellow.

Join AIGA Colorado for a night at the Denver Art Museum celebrating one of our own, AIGA Colorado Fellow Fred Murrell, and the incredible collection of Swiss posters he spent decades building. Fred passed away earlier this year, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of design, collecting, and community.

Come see roughly 20 posters from Fred's personal collection, featuring icons like Armin Hofmann, Wolfgang Weingart, and Bruno Monguzzi, as part of DAM's exhibition From Order to Expression: Swiss Poster Design, 1960s–1990s.

The exhibition is a design history lesson, tracing four decades of the Swiss Style as it evolved from the clean, rigid grids of the '50s and '60s, through the rule-breaking, expressive work of the '70s, and into the early digital experiments that closed out the century. The full collection spans 1961 to 1998 and was donated to DAM by Fred and his wife, Jolaine – a gift that keeps this era of design accessible to all of us.

Come for the happy hour, share in the legacy, and see how Swiss graphic designers transformed visual communication worldwide.

• Reception: 5:00–6:30 PM // The Ponti Restaurant at the DAM

• See the Exhibit: 6:30–8:00 PM // We will walk over together.
