The Social Struggles Of ADHD: RSD, Emotion Regulation, And More

The Social Struggles Of ADHD: RSD, Emotion Regulation, And More

Online event
Overview

Clinical strategies for treating ADHDers who struggle with rejection sensitivity, deficient emotional self-regulation, and impulse control.

ADHD sufferers of all ages often long for more social connection in their lives, but their attempts to connect can be sabotaged by particular features of the disorder.

Rejection-sensitive dysphoria, deficient emotional self-regulation, masking behaviors, impulse control difficulties, and an overactive inner critic can all interfere with ADHDers’ efforts to build a strong social network. This three-hour course will delve into the known causes of these phenomena and provide a framework for helping clients understand and address each one.

3 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, LCATs, NYS Licensed Psychologists and NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:

-identify various features of ADHD that contribute to lack of social connection in clients’ lives.

-identify both outward and internal indicators that clients’ ADHD symptoms are interfering with social connection.

-verbalize an understanding of the known brain-based mechanisms underlying ADHDers’ social difficulties, as well as the ways in which sociocultural factors impact clients’ social functioning.
