Writers Bloc Presents Democracy Forward Founder Skye Perryman

Skye Perryman knows that we're exhausted and getting a little numb from the news. But she knows that we do want to wake up and that we know we can't afford to stay numb or asleep. Perryman works day and night, often through the night, filing cases against the federal government to protect the rights of individuals and communities as President and Founder of Democracy Forward, a national, nonpartisan legal organization dedicated to defending civil rights, reproductive health, climate, and more.

In fact, under her watch, and since Donald Trump took office in 2025, Democracy Forward has filed hundreds of cases and initiated hundreds of investigations into the government's overreach, with a record of resounding success. Many of her peers in the legal profession refer to her as "heroic," and her work has been cited by the US Supreme Court. In her new book, Ordinary People, Extraordinary Times, Perryman tells us that it's not just Congress and lawsuits that drive change: it starts with us, in our communities. She gives us easy action items with easy steps, with great stories to motivate us, and to appreciate the courage of so many around us. It starts, she says, at our front door.
