Emmett Till Lecture Series

As part of the Emmett Till Lecture Series, Florida State University Libraries will host Let the World See: Preserving Sacred Ground in the Mississippi Delta. This special discussion will explore the ongoing work of preserving the history and legacy of Emmett Till, whose 1955 murder became a catalyst for the modern Civil Rights Movement.

Patrick Weems, executive director of the Emmett Till Interpretive Center, and Gloria Dickerson, executive director of We2gether Creating Change and a longtime civil rights activist, will discuss the challenges and responsibilities of confronting difficult histories, preserving significant sites, and ensuring future generations understand the impact of the Emmett Till case and the broader civil rights movement.

The conversation will highlight efforts to safeguard these important places and stories, demonstrating how preservation, education, and community engagement can help keep this history accessible and relevant for generations to come.
