Global Health After Hours

The Danish Alliance for Global Health is pleased to invite you to a in-person conversation featuring Professor Emeritus Dean Jamison and Steven Jensen, Senior Researcher at the Danish Institute for Human Rights and member of the Danish Expert Group for Global Health. Angela Chang, Professor at the University of Southern Denmark and Member of the Danish Expert Group for Global Health will provide the opening remarks and set the scene for the conversation.

Over the past four decades, Dean Jamison has been among the most influential figures in global health economics. Through his work with the World Bank, the Lancet Comission on Investing in Health and leading academic institutions, he has helped shape how governments, international organisations and donors assess the value of health investments and prioritize limited resources.

For many decision-makers today, concepts such as cost-effectiveness, return on investment and evidence-based priority setting have become central to health policy. Dean Jamison's work has played a defining role in developing these approaches.

In conversation with Steven Jensen, one of Denmark's leading voices on the history and politics of human rights and international development, the discussion will explore:

  • How economic thinking transformed global health
  • The rise of cost-effectiveness and priority setting
  • The relationship between evidence, politics and values
  • The balance between economic efficiency and rights-based approaches
  • What these debates mean for the future of global health

Following the conversation, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A with the speakers before joining fellow attendees for networking and refreshments.
