Welcome to the Garden Gateway Workshop!
Garden Gateway Workshops are returning for a new season.
We’ll begin the season by getting back to the basics: understanding what you need to start a garden, finding ways to grow food even with limited space, and preparing refreshing recipes to help during the warm days of the season.
Gardening Topic – Starting Your Garden & Growing in Small Spaces
You do not need a large yard to grow food. This month’s gardening session will focus on starting a garden and making productive use of small spaces.
Learn how to assess the space available, whether it is a backyard, patio, balcony, container garden, or another small growing area. We’ll discuss considerations such as sunlight, soil, watering, choosing appropriate containers, and selecting crops that work well when growing space is limited.
The workshop will cover how to organize growing space, so plants have the room, light, and resources they need. Whether beginning your first garden or looking for ways to make better use of the space you already have, this session will provide practical information for getting started.
Nutrition/Cooking Topic – Cooling Recipes
Our nutrition and cooking session will focus on cooling recipes that make use of fresh ingredients while providing simple options for warm-weather meals and drinks.
Participants will explore ways to use fresh produce to create foods that are refreshing, flavorful, and easy to prepare at home. The demonstration will connect what we grow in the garden with practical ways to incorporate more fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other fresh ingredients into everyday meals.
In order to help us better prepare for accurate numbers of attendees we are asking for a small deposit ($7) to register for the workshop. Once you attend, you will receive a voucher to spend the deposit at the Village Market Place. If the deposit is prohibitive, you may request a waiver by emailing csu@csuinc.org. Please note: waiver recipients who are no-shows the day of the workshop will not be eligible to receive a waiver for future workshops.
- Vouchers are redeemable at any time before the final workshop in June 2027.
- They can be used separately, or together.
- Vouchers cannot be replaced.
