Gesture Drawing Workshop: Capturing the Human Form

Learn to quickly observe and capture the movement, structure, and energy of the human figure in this workshop dedicated to gesture drawing. Students will explore a variety of foundational gesture drawing practices, including line of action, volumetric and landmark gestures, contour, continuous and blind contour, and negative space drawing. These exercises are designed to help students become more comfortable observing the human form while developing an understanding of proportion, movement, weight, and spatial relationships. Working from a live model, poses will begin with fast five-second gestures and gradually increase to five-minute poses, allowing students to build from instinctive mark-making toward more structured observation. Through demonstrations and guided exercises, students will learn to see the figure as a collection of lines, shapes, volumes, and movements rather than simply a collection of details. All experience levels are welcome.
