@CPR | Samuel Humphreys: Terem

Terem, a new dance work by choreographer Samuel Humphreys, lays out a pattern of enigmatically entwined relationships between three female figures, exploring the experience and costs of adapting to life within spaces of enclosure. Rooted in the classical modern dance vocabulary of Anna Sokolow and Isadora Duncan, Terem is an intricately layered exploration of self and other; memory and narrative; and the liberatory potential of pattern and movement. The run time for Terem is 35 minutes, followed by a talkback with the choreographer and dancers.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Samuel Humphreys has choreographed for Shadowbox Theatre, and performs with the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble, Isadora Duncan Dance Company, and New York Baroque Dance Company. He studied dance composition with Mary Anthony and Jim May, and has written music for the Barnard Columbia Ancient Drama Group.
