You Don't Watch Movies. You Hear Them.

Overview

The Hang Theory. A lecture series by Hang Dallas.

One speaker. One big idea. One good room.

Where · Times Ten Cellars.

People say they watched a movie or ask if you've seen it, but the language is wrong. George Lucas put the number at fifty percent: half of what you experience in a theater is sound. This talk examines how a film's sound mix shapes what an audience feels and where they look, starting with the mechanics of mixing and moving into how surround sound opened new visual strategies that let filmmakers build spaces beyond the frame's edge.
