Day in the Dirt

Join us for a day of garden beautification on The Underline.

Join neighbors, friends, and community members for a hands-on morning of planting, weeding, and mulching alongside our horticulture team.

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just getting your hands dirty for the first time, you’ll learn about the beauty and benefits of native plants and how they can transform public spaces into thriving, sustainable gardens. November 7th

Time: 8 - 11 AM

📍Planting Location: Mariposa Gardens, Near 8075 SW 67th Ave, Miami, FL 33143)

Parking: Metered parking nearby or Dadeland North Station and walk north.

Volunteers:

• Wear clothes that you wouldn’t mind getting dirty.
• Conduct plant bed maintenance led by The Underline’s horticulturist and the horticulture team.
• Will be provided with gardening tools and gloves.
• Wear comfortable shoes, apply sunscreen, bring hydration and a hat.

November 7th, 2026

• Come join us for our first Day in the Dirt in our newly opened segment of The Underline! Help us weed and mulch the area as we work on beautifying the southernmost region of the park. Never weeded or mulched before? No problem! Our horticulture staff is here to help you develop these skills.
• Location: Mariposa Gardens, Column 74
• Activity: Weeding and Mulching

December 5th, 2026:

• Join us in giving our Play Forest some TLC! We will be weeding and mulching the area south of the Play Forest. Never weeded or mulched before? No problem! Our horticulture staff is here to help you develop these skills.
• Location: South Miami, South of the Nikki Spoelstra Play Forest
• Activity: Weeding and Mulching
• Featuring: Florida Native Plant Society

February 6th, 2027:

• On this Day in the Dirt, we will be thinning some grasses and trimming plants at our Inter Grove Gallery! Plant enthusiasts, professional gardeners, and those without this type of experience are welcome to join us as we give our lovely plants “haircuts”!
• Location: Inter Grove Gallery, Column 431
• Activity: Trimming and grass thinning

March 6th, 2027:

• Planting season has arrived once again! Join us near Douglas Road station and leave your own mark on The Underline as you plant one (or a few) native plant(s)!
• Location: Douglas Road, Columns 332-346
• Activity: Planting!

April 3rd, 2027:

• We’re back in South Miami, beautifying our Play Forest once again. This time, you’ll grab a shovel, dig up a few holes, and plant some native plants at this beloved spot.
• Location: Nikki Spoelstra Play Forest
• Activity Planting!

May 1st, 2027:

• Join us at Douglas Road station once again, a little further north this time, as we continue to beautify the area! Plant a native plant or two and watch it grow as you come back and visit this beautiful area in Coral Gables.
• Location: Douglas Road, Columns 333-340, between magic hands car wash and walgreens
• Activity: Planting!

June 5th, 2027:

• Come join us at our last Day in the Dirt of the 2026-2027 season! Help us beautify our Rain Garden area by planting a few native plants before the hot, Florida summer temperatures arrive.
• Location: Rain Garden, Columns 478-480, between SW 17th Ave and SW 16th Ave.
• Activity: Planting!
