ABOUT THE BOOK
A single hot flash at 3am. Then everything unravels.
If You Give a Cat a Hot Flash follows what happens when a hot flash transforms into brain fog, stray chin hairs, multiple outfit changes, forgotten plans, middle-of-the-night wakeups, and that very specific menopause rage no one warned us about. At the center of it all is Menopawsy(TM), a cat just trying to remember what she walked into the room for.
Created by primary care physician and menopause clinician Dr. Alexis Dunne, and illustrated by Carrie Trimm Drew, this story grew from what real women are finally saying out loud about menopause. It's one part laugh-out-loud relief, another part "Wait, this is exactly me" stunned realization.
And now, menopause finally has a mascot.
(A portion of proceeds supports the Turner Syndrome Foundation, which advocates for girls and women living with lifelong hormonal conditions.)
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Alexis Dunne is a board-certified internal medicine physician, as well as a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner who has been practicing medicine for more than 20 years. Her interest in midlife women’s health began as she aged along with her patients, listening to their stories and realizing just how many women were navigating the same symptoms, questions, and frustrations. She runs a virtual menopause clinic in addition to her primary care clinic.
Alexis is also the author of If You Give a Cat a Hot Flash, a humorous look at (peri)menopause through the eyes of one very overheated cat.
She’s a remarried widow, mother of three children, stepmother to three more, and considers herself a “functional hot mess.” On social media as @dunnewithmenopause, she tries to provide a place for midlife commiseration as well as (peri)menopause education. She enjoys quiet time, hiking and spending time with her children (when they are in a good mood).
