What can I expect from this training?

You can expect three full days of both didactic and experiential instruction on 
Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). Some parts of the training may be 
review and other parts may be brand new information. You will be expected to

What COVID safety measures have been arranged for attendees?

Accepted Answer

Obviously, if you have a fever or are not feeling well, do not come to the 
training. Unfortunately, that will mean that you will not be allowed to complete 
the training this time, but there will be other opportunities. Your health and the 
health of the entire class will remain our priority.

What if I do not feel comfortable attending in person or can no longer be in the training?

We understand not everyone will feel comfortable attending in person.  At this time, we do not have an option of attending virtually.  If you can no longer be in the training, please refer to date of refunds listed above.  Refunds may be requested through the Eventbrite system.

Do I have to attend all the sessions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You will be required to attend all sessions and return from lunch and breaks in a timely manner. To maintain fidelity to the teaching model from the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF), you may not miss more than a total of 30 minutes of the training.

When can I get into the classroom?

The classroom will open each day 30minutes prior to the beginning of the course and the instructors will be available for questions.  The instructors will also be available at the conclusion of the day for input and questions as well.

What should I wear?

Accepted Answer

Wear clothing that is comfortable. Normal work or business attire is 
appropriate, and the Personal Appearance Policy of your agency or organization 
should be followed. You might want to dress in layers because the room 
temperature could fluctuate (hot or cold) so consider bringing a sweater.

Will I receive Continuing Education Credit?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, in collaboration 
with the University of Maryland – Baltimore Campus, offers continuing education credits for the two courses. You do not need to pay extra for these. The number of CEU hours will be stated on the certificates you receive.

What supplies will I need?

Accepted Answer

Each attendee will be given two (2) books. You are welcome to bring your 
laptop but it’s not necessary. There are not many outlets in the room so please 
have your device charged if you plan to use it. Most of the lecture information 
will be printed in the books, but most people opt to take notes.

Do I have to be a mental health professional to take the training?

Accepted Answer

No. CISM is effective because it uses peers as well as mental health 
professionals in the interventions. Good team member qualities are having
genuine empathy toward people in crisis, being a good listener, and being adept at managing your own stress levels.

Can I bring a service weapon into the classroom?

Accepted Answer

No.  Please plan accordingly.

Will food be provided?

Accepted Answer

Lunch will be on your own.  There are several area eateries that will meet the needs of restricted diets.  You may also bring your own snacks/lunch.  Coffee, water and soda will be available inside the classroom.
