As part of our drop-in sessions in Morningside, we are holding two 45-minute community focus groups. Please refer to the FAQs below before confirming your ticket.

What are the focus groups for?

The focus groups are an opportunity to have a more detailed conversation with the project team about the shortlisted options for your local level crossing. They complement the wider drop-in sessions by providing time for a smaller group of people to sit down together, discuss the options and explore the issues in more depth. There will be no more detailed information being shared in the focus groups than will already be on display at the drop-in sessions.

We want to better understand what each of the options could mean for the people who live, work, travel or spend time in the area.

The focus groups will help us understand:

• the trade-offs that matter most to the community
• challenges or risks we may not yet fully understand
• opportunities to improve or refine the options
• possible unintended consequences
• local needs and considerations that should be taken into account as the options are developed.

Your feedback will be considered alongside the technical assessments as we work towards identifying a preferred option for each level crossing.

How will the focus groups work?

Each focus group will run for 45 minutes and involve around 8–10 community members, together with members of the project team.

We will start with a short introduction to the project and briefly recap the options and some of the key trade-offs being considered.

Most of the session will then be a facilitated small-group discussion. You will be able to discuss with other members of the community and a project team member, each of the options and share your views and local knowledge.

We will record the key points raised during the discussion so they can be included with the other feedback received through the engagement.

Do I need to prepare?

You do not need any specialist or technical knowledge to take part.

We do ask that you familiarise yourself with the options before the focus group. You can do this by:

• reviewing the information on the project website
• attending one of our pop-up events, or
• arriving early at the drop-in session so you have time to look through the information and speak with the project team.

This will allow us to spend most of the 45-minute session discussing the options rather than presenting information.

What happens to my feedback?

Following the engagement, we will bring together the feedback received through the focus groups, drop-in sessions, pop-ups and other engagement activities.

A summary of the feedback will be published on the project website. If you are signed up for project updates, we will also let you know when it is available.

I am unable to attend the session but would like to participate. What shall I do?
