Mostly Water: Copenhagen Book Launch

Join poet, performer, and social justice storyteller Aisha Fukushima at demeter for an intimate evening celebrating the Copenhagen launch of her debut poetry collection, Mostly Water.

Moving through her grandmother’s kitchen, hair salons, and postwar Afro-Japanese histories, Aisha explores mixed Black and Japanese identity, memory, belonging, and solidarity. In these poems, the racialized mathematics of halves and quarters gives way to abundance—and to language spacious enough to hold who we truly are.

The evening will bring poetry and storytelling into conversation with a living-archive exhibition illuminating the people, places, and experiences that helped bring the book into being. Guests will have time to explore the exhibition, connect with one another, and purchase copies of Mostly Water and have them signed.

The launch will be held at demeter, a working studio, gallery, and community space in Copenhagen, built by artists Chuva Featherstone and Michael Sherman and rooted in cultivating and sharing creative practice. Aisha’s questions of belonging, identity, and abundance echo the questions Chuva and Michael return to in their own work, making the collaboration a natural fit. Together, they have created a living, breathing space around a book born from years of gathering material, memory, and meaning.
