Gut Health Reset: Practical Tools for Nutrition, Digestion & Pelvic Health
Join Physio Down Under pelvic health physiotherapists Monica Donaldson and Tamara Gerdis, together with Jennifer Lewin, LAc (USA), Integrative Functional Medicine Practitioner, for a practical look at gut and digestive health from two complementary clinical perspectives.
Monica and Tamara will explore the important and often overlooked role of the pelvic floor in healthy bowel function, while Jennifer will look at how nutrition, the microbiome, gut function, motility, and lifestyle can influence digestion.

Tamara and Monica will cover the following topics:
Gut & Bowel Health: A Pelvic Physiotherapy Perspective
Key topics include:
- Bowel health basics: Why pelvic floor physiotherapy matters for issues such as constipation, straining, incomplete emptying, and incontinence.
- How bowel movements work: Understanding the puborectalis muscle, anorectal angle, toilet positioning, breathing, and common dysfunctional patterns such as pelvic floor dyssynergia.
- Healthy stool habits: Using the Bristol Stool Chart to identify an ideal stool (Types 3–4), and discussing the roles of hydration and fibre.
- Pelvic floor coordination: Emphasising that effective bowel function requires relaxation and coordination, not simply stronger pelvic muscles or more Kegels.
- Lifestyle factors: Exploring exercise, abdominal massage, posture, prolonged sitting, and the gut–brain/stress connection.
- Practical takeaways: Finishing with 3–5 simple actions participants can use immediately, guidance on when to seek pelvic physiotherapy, and a Q&A.
Good bowel health isn't just about diet and fibre — how the pelvic floor coordinates, relaxes, breathes, and works with the rest of the body is also important.
Most importantly, this will be a practical session. You will leave with actionable tools you can start using right away to support your gut, improve digestion and bowel function, and get your health and routines back on track after the summer.
Each participant will receive a complimentary bottle from AKESI
