Finding Your Irish Roots—A New Genealogy Series at the UICC

Calling all family history enthusiasts!

Have you wanted to start researching your family history but didn’t know how to begin? Did you start your family history journey, only to get stuck, or hit a brick wall? Do you want to know your family story, but need some assistance?

FINDING YOUR IRISH ROOTS

This two-day course will start you on your journey to tracing your Irish roots. Topics to be covered include: general genealogy tips, historical events that make Irish family research unique, Irish naming patterns, finding vital records, using the Irish Censuses, Griffiths Valuation of land, Petty Session Court records, Registry of Deeds, newspapers, research websites (free and fee) and much more. The sessions will combine some history and cultural context to help you find your family information and to make sense of it.

Location:

In person at the UICC in the St. Francis Room

Dates:

  • Session #1: Sat, October 10 and Saturday, October 17, 2026 11am – 1pm
  • Session #2: Sat, November 7 and Saturday, November 14, 2026 11am – 1pm


  • Light snacks included
  • All participants who finish the two-week course will receive a Certificate of Completion.
  • All proceeds support the Patrick J Dowling Library at the UICC
