2027 Pathways to Federal Public Service Fellowship Info Session

The Matsui Center engages Cal students in public life through internships, public events, and the presence of distinguished campus visitors. In this way, the Center serves as a fitting legacy to Congressman Robert T. Matsui and his belief that public service is a noble profession that should be open to all, a commitment that made him one of California's most important and respected political figures for more than three decades. The Center is strictly nonpartisan.In addition to sponsoring its own events, the Center helps to publicize and support political happenings sponsored by other campus groups and academic departments. The Center works regularly with such organizations as the Cal Berkeley Democrats, the Berkeley College Republicans, the Goldman School of Public Policy, the Graduate School of Journalism, and BerkeleyLaw.The Center is a component of the Institute of Governmental Studies, California’s oldest public policy research institute.

APPLY TO BE A 2027 PATHWAYS FELLOW!Application Deadline: Sunday, 9/27 at 11:59pmEligibility: This Fellowship is only open to UC Berkeley undergraduate students who are also accepted to the Cal in the Capital (CITC) Program. Visit the <a href="https://publicservice.berkeley.edu/programs/citc/" title="https://publicservice.berkeley.edu/programs/citc/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cal in the Capital</a> website for more information and upcoming application deadlines.<ul><li>Open to all majors and years, including seniors who will graduate in May 2027, as well as transfer students.</li><li>Due to the requirement to complete the 1-unit course (PS110F) and 2-unit DeCal, which are both in-person and only offered during the spring, students planning to study abroad during the spring semester are NOT eligible.</li></ul>About: The Matsui Pathways to Federal Public Service Fellowship Program is a collaboration between the <a href="https://igs.berkeley.edu/matsui-center" title="https://igs.berkeley.edu/matsui-center" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Robert T. Matsui Center for Politics and Public Service</a> and <a href="https://publicservice.berkeley.edu/programs/citc/" title="https://publicservice.berkeley.edu/programs/citc/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cal in the Capital</a> (CITC). It is designed to inspire students who represent the diversity of American society – particularly first-generation and low-income students – to enter federal public service in our nation's capital. Our goal is to provide Berkeley students with the resources, support, training and experience needed to create a pathway into federal changemaking spaces.<ul><li>Learn about federal politics and policymaking through spring coursework</li><li>Complete a 9-week summer residency and public service internship in Washington, DC</li><li>receive free housing and a modest living stipend.</li></ul>Want to learn more?
