Garment Sewing 101: Sew Your First Garment
Master pattern reading, cutting, and foundational techniques to sew your very first custom top at Mood Fabrics Chicago!
Transition from basic home projects to crafting your own wearable wardrobe! Hosted at the Mood Fabrics Showroom in Chicago and led by instructor Latoya Bell, this 4-hour, hands-on workshop guides practiced beginners step-by-step through sewing the Rosette Tie Front Top from Mood Sewciety Patterns. Featuring a breezy, loose-fitting design with a gathered peplum and a front bow tie, this project is forgiving on fit and built to boost your garment-making confidence.
Throughout the class, attendees will learn how to accurately read pattern symbols, select their size, cut fabric on the grainline, sew darts, gather a peplum, and construct clean double-folded hems. Live group demonstrations are paired with individualized guidance at your workstation to ensure you finish with skills that transfer to future sewing projects.
- What to Bring: Attendees must bring a basic sewing kit containing fabric scissors, a seam ripper, sewing pins or clips, fabric marking tools (chalk or erasable pen), a seam gauge, and a turning tool (such as a loop turner). Bringing your own sewing machine (along with its power cord, foot pedal, bobbins, and manual) is optional if you prefer learning on your home machine, though showroom sewing machines are fully provided.
Class Registration & Cancellation Policy Refunds for the ticket price are available for cancellations made up to 24 hours before the event start time. Please note that Eventbrite’s service fees are non-refundable, so you will receive a partial refund equal to the ticket amount minus those fees.
