Lyle Brewer returns to the Lizard Lounge November 12th for the release of his latest album "Learning Curve"
$25 adv/$30 door
Lyle Brewer is a guitarist and songwriter from Massachusetts who incorporates the worlds of fingerstyle, jazz and folk into a style all his own.
A professor at Berklee College of Music and a sideman to artists such as Lori McKenna, Ryan Montbleau and Neighbor, Brewer has earned a reputation as one of the most skilled instrumentalists and composers of his generation.
What separates Lyle from other guitarists, however, is what he doesn’t play. Not just another instrumental technician, Brewer’s music is always in service to the song, creating a rich and sophisticated quality both on record and in performance.
The Boston Globe describes his music as “thoughtful, artfully composed instrumentals”, while USA Today writes, “Brewer’s technical ability is staggering — each note both runs into the next and seems to stand out on its own. The melodies take the place of lyrics. The songs tell stories without words.”
On his 13th solo album, “Learning Curve”, that same balance between technical mastery and narrative-based storytelling is on full display. This new album is a collection of 10 poignant songs that draw inspiration from Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Whether on nylon string or electric guitar, Brewer has a strong ability to communicate his ideas. You don’t need to be a guitarist to dive into Brewer’s instrumentals. He lets the music do the talking.
