With its high ceilings and wall-to-wall dark wood, Dublin Irish Pub feels like the kind of room where stories get told after dark. This October we're turning it into a month-long quiz tournament across five Thursdays, and each one brings a brand-new theme kept secret until the night itself.

Here's how a night runs. Fifteen questions, a song playing under every single one, and your phone is the buzzer: no apps, no paper, just tap your answer and watch the leaderboard move in real time. Play in teams of up to six, bring your own crew or turn up solo and build one at the bar. It goes about two hours with the bar open throughout, and the top team on the night walks away with a prize. Newcomers and regulars both have a real shot, because knowing a lot helps, but knowing the right person helps more.

Here's what makes October different. Every Thursday is also one round of the same tournament. The same teams return week after week and the standings carry across all five nights, building toward the final Thursday, where the champion is crowned and the trophy is handed over. New teams can jump in any week, so don't worry if you find us late.

Here's how the points stack up. Every Thursday your team scores points for where you finish, 10 for the win, 8 for second, 6 for third and on down the table, plus a point just for turning up. Only your best four nights count toward your season total, so a missed week or one rough night won't knock you out of the race. That total is what the whole month comes down to.

Then there's your one wild card: the Joker. Every team gets a single Joker for the month. You'll hear the theme the moment the night begins, and if it's your kind of night, you play your card: finish first and you bank 10 bonus points, second is worth 5, third breaks even, and fourth or lower costs you 5. One card, one month, one bet on your luckiest theme. Play it too soon and you'll wish you'd waited. Wait too long and your perfect theme might slip by.
