This tour highlights retrospective examination of the historic conflict that unfolded on the island of Hispaniola—territory now divided between the nations of Haiti and the Dominican Republic—which ultimately gave rise to the world’s first free Black republic within a colonial context. The enduring legacy of this revolution continues to manifest in diasporic communities such as Little Haiti, where Haitian identity is articulated through cultural expressions of texture, flavor, and sound. This tour experience seeks to illuminate the historical, social, and cultural interconnections among Miami, Haiti, and the Little Haiti neighborhood, highlighting the transnational dimensions of Haitian heritage and its ongoing influence within the global African diaspora.
