Cornfield Dance is proud to share the premiere of "Chasing Space".

University Settlement House

Created for seven dancers, "Chasing Space" brings together sweeping geometric movement and distinctive gestural language to consider the ways we inhabit, navigate, and create space in our lives.Quotes from audience members:“The dancing was wondrous: the way playfulness meets rigor, gesture meets full-body virtuosity, humanism meets abstraction.” “Congratulations to you and all of the dancers on such exquisite articulation in form, movement and word!” “The work was so fascinating and brilliant and thrilling to watch.” Quote from the choreographer:“An appetite for space, in all its iterations, ranging from compressed to expansive, has been the steadiest companion in my life, a relationship established during my formative years growing up in rural Virginia. No surprise I gravitated to an art form that is inherently engaged in the shaping of the “stage” space as the dancers continuously shift their locations and spatial relationships to one another. Each dance can be identified in part by the ways the dancers inhabit and move through the space. In some sense, every dance that I have made has been chasing space.” Choreography: Ellen CornfieldMusic: Jerome BeginMusicians: Jerome Begin, Electronics; Bowie Ma, Violin; Namisa Sun, Cello;Lighting Design: Kathy KaufmannCostume Designer: David QuinnDancers: Mariah Anton Arters, Larissa Asebedo, Chase Buntrock, Natalie Clevenger, Julian Donahue, Giulia Faria, Eve Jacobs *Late entry is not permitted
