Join us on Wednesday October 21st at 7pm for Speculative Fiction Book Club at Whistler's Daughter!
Speculative fiction is a broad genre. Also known as “what-if” books, spec fic changes the laws of what’s real or possible in society as we know it, then speculates on the outcome of these changes. Think sci-fi, fantasy, dystopian, etc!
Our pick for this month is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, a quietly devastating novel set in an alternate version of late-20th-century England. Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy grow up at Hailsham, a seemingly idyllic boarding school that shapes them for a purpose they don't fully understand until it's too late to change course. Told in Ishiguro's spare, understated prose, it's a story about memory, love, and what it means to be human when your future has already been decided for you.
Pick up a copy in store, head to Libro.fm if you prefer an audiobook experience, or visit our friends at the Ferndale Area District Library to check out a copy for the month.
Your $10 ticket fee holds a seat for you, and can be applied toward an in-store purchase (valid on book club day only).
