Fireside Tales of Horror

Fireside Tales of Horror

Overview

Vancouver’s darkest secrets refuse to stay buried. Gather by firelight for grim tales of murder, demons, corpse thieves, and restless spirit

Step into the shadows of Clark County’s past for an evening of bone-chilling stories, grim secrets, and lingering spirits.

On select Saturdays in October, the Clark County Historical Museum invites you to gather around the crackling fireplace inside historic Covington House, the oldest residential structure in Washington State, for a journey into some of the darkest corners of Clark County’s history.

By firelight, you’ll hear the stories that rarely make it into the history books: the crimes, legends, tragedies, and strange occurrences that have left an unsettling imprint on the places where they happened.

Discover the history of one of downtown Vancouver’s most crime-riddled corners, where three murders unfolded over the course of 120 years. Learn how a Clark County community came to bear the name of a child-stealing demon from Indigenous mythology. Delve into the bizarre and macabre story of teenage corpse thieves whose exploits left a dark legacy at a Vancouver high school.

These are more than stories of the past. They are tales of violence, death, folklore, and the unexplained, and they raise an unsettling question: can the darkest moments in a place leave something behind?

As the fire burns low and the stories grow darker, you’ll have the opportunity to decide for yourself whether the past is truly past… or whether some things refuse to stay buried.

This haunting evening is intended for mature audiences ages 13 and up, and registration is required.
