Vesper Service is a cookbook club where we get to show and tell recipes, potluck style, from a selected book or theme. Alison Roman is up!
Vesper Service is Vesper Books and Wine’s communal cookbook club: a recurring gathering centered around cooking, sharing, and connecting through the recipes we love.
For this service, we’re cooking through the cookbooks of Alison Roman: Dining In, Nothing Fancy, Something from Nothing, and Sweet Enough. Together, we’ll explore the recipes that have made Alison’s cooking so recognizable: unfussy, deeply satisfying food that feels both special and completely at home on the everyday table.
This is an invitation to cook through Alison Roman’s body of work together, from salty, crunchy vegetables and slow-roasted meats to casual dinner-party dishes and something sweet to finish. Who knows?! Maybe we'll cause another cannellini bean shortage!
How does Vesper Service work?
- Each "service" we select a cookbook or collection of cookbooks to celebrate, ideally ones that have been in rotation long enough to remain accessible to folx within our community.
- Purchase (we offer 15% off at Vesper Books and Wine if you purchase a ticket) or borrow the book from a friend or your local library.
- Cook through one recipe from any of Alison Roman’s cookbooks: Dining In, Nothing Fancy, Something from Nothing, or Sweet Enough, in the typical serving size to bring to share.
- Together, we will each discuss why we chose what we made and any modifications made to the recipe.
- Feast and connect with other like-minded folks from our community.
- Once we're finished, all unclaimed leftovers will be portioned out and donated to one of the many Detroit Community Fridges.
