Jr. Archery 101
Overview

Unleash Your Inner Archer! Ages 8-12

What to expect: Bring your 8-12 year old children to our monthly Archery program at the Farm! This program will focus on teaching safety, proper shooting technique, and developing skills like focus, discipline, and self-confidence. At the beginning of the program, Ranger Rachel will emphasize safety and procedures before getting on the range and handling the equipment.

After a very short walk through the woods (less than a half mile), archers and parents will get to the EMBARC archery range. Participants will have the opportunity to shoot compound and recurve bows at targets from different distances. There will also be opportunities for target games.

Program leader: Your guide will be Ranger Rachel, Park Naturalist at EMBARC Youth Farm.

Where to meet: Upon entering the gate, turn left to follow the sign for "Archery Parking". Please follow the sign and park in the corral area in front of the red barn. After parking, follow the signs for Archery into the forest along the trail. It is about a five minute (a quarter of a mile) walk to the range.

What to bring: We encourage parents to bring their own folding chairs as there is limited seating available at the range. Please make sure to wear close-toed shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Each participant MUST bring a reusable water bottle. We will have a large cooler of water to refill bottles. We will also have bug spray and sunscreen available.

Restrooms: The available bathroom is the portapotty located in the parking lot by park head quarters on the other side of the park (professionally cleaned twice a week).

Recommended ages: This program content is only for AGES 8-12. Other age groups have their own allotted time. Parents must stay during program.

Weather contingency: This program will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Notice will be sent via email no later than one hour before the program.

Walking distance: Just under half of a mile to and from the range.

Exposure: This walk starts off in full sun, but the archery range is mostly under tree canopy.

Trail surface & accessibility: The trail is an established dirt/gravel road. DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs is committed to providing inclusive and accessible programs. Reasonable accommodations may be available upon request. To request an accommodation, please contact the program organizer at least 48 hours in advance of the event.
