Author Talk: The Yellow Trumpet: African Storytelling at a Glance

Join Chinedu Philip Onoyima to discuss African literature and his new book, The Yellow Trumpet. From discovering uncomfortable truths to spiritual and moral transformation, The Yellow Trumpet follows a renowned Nigerian engineer as he journeys to find purpose. This Author Talk will center around a reading session followed by a Q&A and book signing.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Onyeoma has everything most Nigerians dream of. After earning a master's degree in the United Kingdom, he returns home to secure a prestigious engineering position with an oil company. His future appears set: a successful career, financial stability, and the respect that comes with both. Yet, beneath the surface, something is missing. Haunted by a personal emptiness and shaken by a near-death experience, Onyeoma begins to question the direction of his life. Searching for purpose beyond career success, he decides to assist a clergyman friend on a missionary assignment in a remote village in Enugu State. What begins as a brief act of service soon becomes a journey into a world he never imagined. Behind the sleepy village's quiet rhythms lie layers of intrigue, corruption, buried secrets, and powerful superstitions that shape every aspect of life. As Onyeoma is drawn deeper into the community's conflicts, he finds himself confronting not only the darkness around him but also uncomfortable truths about himself. In a place where faith, fear, and power collide, Onyeoma must decide what he truly believes and what kind of man he wants to become.

ACCESSIBILITY

Parking: Metered street parking is available (parallel parking) on Market St. Paid lots are available within a few blocks. The closest one is on 21st and Market St.

Entrance Access: Our front door is at street level and manually operated, accessible for wheelchairs and mobility aids. The rest of the block has sidewalks raised by five steps; however, the bike lane offers a step-free route down the block with minimal car traffic.

Restrooms: All-gender restrooms. Just like at home.

Communication: All staff on site speak English. There will be one Spanish speaking staff member. We welcome communication via translation apps (Google Translate is available). While we do not use ASL, we’re happy to communicate through apps or other tools that work for you.

Alcohol Policy: No alcohol will be served or permitted at this event.
