Writing Workshop for Travel Enthusiasts

Writing Workshop for Travel Enthusiasts

Overview

A one-off workshop for travel writing at ABC The Hague.

Would you like to put your travel experiences into words and describe them to your readers in a vivid and evocative way?

In this one-off workshop, you’ll learn how to bring settings to life and write compelling stories about life in other places. The course is suitable for beginners and advanced students alike.

• In the first part, you’ll receive theoretical guidance on various narrative techniques and discover which structures work particularly well for building suspense.
• In the second part, you’ll have the chance to put your new knowledge to the test right away in practical writing exercises.

Afterward, you’ll have the opportunity to read your story aloud to the group (on a voluntary basis) and receive immediate, constructive feedback from the participants and from course instructor Sigrun Dahmer, a certified writing consultant.

So, all you’ll need this afternoon is a pen and paper (or a phone or tablet) to travel the world.

Please note: the workshop will take place upstairs, and we don't have an elevator, so unfortunately this event is not wheelchair accessible. We're very sorry about that!

About the course instructor:
Sigrun Dahmer was born in Bochum in 1966 with a wanderlust gene: As a high school student, she went to Paris as an au pair, and after graduating from high school, she worked for a year as a nanny in the U.S.
Back in Germany, she studied English, Spanish, and German to become a teacher. During her studies, she spent a semester abroad in Andalusia. She now works full-time as a high school teacher in Cologne, Germany and part-time as an author, licensed writing consultant (certified in 2018 at the University of Education in Freiburg), and rhetoric coach. She has authored two academic books on selected aspects of oral and written communication. She has also published several novels and a three-volume Andalusian crime series. She is a member of the “Authors of Cologne” (Autorenforum Köln) and “Sisters in Crime” (Mörderische Schwestern).
If you’d like to learn more about her or browse her blog, “besser reden – besser schreiben,” you’ll find what you’re looking for on her social media channels and her website: www.sigrun-dahmer.de.
