Engaging Faith Actors for Peace

The event is convened through the Danish Network for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding and the Danish Network on Religion and Development, with ADRA, CKU, DanChurchAid, Danmission and Danish Muslim Aid as organizing partners.

As Denmark rolls out its new development strategy, the event will explore what constructive engagement with local faith actors can look like in fragile and conflict-affected contexts, and what Danish actors and their partners can take forward in relation to conflict prevention, peacebuilding, localisation, humanitarian principles and partnership practice.

The programme will move from evidence to practice and policy. Professor Mark Owen, will provide the opening keynote. This will be followed by practitioner experiences from fragile and conflict-affected contexts, a policy-practice panel and audience reflections on what Danish actors and their partners can take forward.

The event is relevant for colleagues working on peacebuilding, conflict prevention, localisation, humanitarian action, development cooperation, civil society partnerships, inclusion, gender, religion and development, and fragile contexts.

The event will result in a short recommendation note with practical steps for MFA, Danish civil society/FBOs and possible future guidance on faith actor engagement in fragile contexts. The note will capture key recommendations on constructive, evidence-informed and conflict-sensitive engagement, including relevant safeguards, red lines, and minimum standards.
