MARS KUMARI
https://marskumari.bandcamp.com/https://marskumariworld.com/When Jacques Derrida defined the lingering Marxism of late-Capitalist society as hauntological, mashing together the words haunting and ontology, he couldn’t have imagined what the era might sound like. Mars Kumari captures the grief and grit of loss we all feel now, haunted as we are by what was here and is now missing."

notes on her recent record "Dweller" on No Rent RecordsDweller was recorded while living in a perpetually flooding basement where the artist was recovering from facial feminization surgery. She captures the horrors of domesticity and the compelling inertia of bed rotting.
Her tools are kitchen appliances, the ambient sounds of houses, radio signals, a dismembered piano in the woods, mutated iron on an urban shore, eggs.
The album is heavily influenced by her experiences with early childhood psychosis which coincided with watching her grandmother who helped take care of her, degenerate with Parkinson’s Disease. Also, navigating her mother’s inconsistent states from bi polar disorder and the complexities of being the latest in a line of women brought up by women who are trying their hardest to caretake while falling apart.
Her themes are her own diagnosed schizophrenia, religious trauma, a grandfather with religious psychosis who thought he was a prophet sent from god, festering depression, layers of dead skin and hair, possessed houses, moving multiple times because the house was trying to kill her, slowly rotting into furniture, the feeling of crawling out of one’s skin brought on by antipsychotics and gender dysphoria, akathisia, and the blurred lines of being a friend, a lover, a family member and a mental health patient.
More than a concert series, this unique collaboration aims to build on the communal aspect of Outsider Sounds & Visions and continue to establish The Roar Shack as a destination for forward-thinking live music and art intersecting with a community rooted in togetherness and outsider out in San Francisco.
