The Artist and the Billionaire: the Story Behind the Unlikely Creation of the Cloisters.
The two men could not have been more different. John D. Rockefeller Jr. the world's richest man: buttoned-down, Baptist, reserved. George Gray Barnard, struggling sculptor, brilliant, irrepressible, vainglorious. But a century ago, they entered into a decades-long dance that culminated in the creation of a unique museum that neither one of them could have built on their own. The story of their interaction has never been fully described. But, now, noted New York historian, Neal Shultz, has combed the Rockefeller Archives and discovered the hilarious, furious, and ultimately heart-breaking connection between the two most influential figures in the history of upper Manhattan.
