🧠 Lecture: "Autonomy, Authority, & the Evolutionary Need to Feel Free"
🎙️ Speaker: Dr. Benjamin D. Rosenberg
Join us for an evening exploring why humans are so deeply driven to feel free—and what happens when that freedom is threatened. Social-health psychologist Dr. Benjamin D. Rosenberg will trace the evolutionary and philosophical roots of autonomy and freedom, then examine how people react when their sense of control is restricted or removed.
From government policies to medical advice to everyday interpersonal dynamics, Dr. Rosenberg will outline the psychological and motivational processes that unfold when people experience autonomy threats. He will also highlight practical implications for organizations, leaders, and health practitioners, and share evidence-based strategies to reduce backlash and protect people’s need for autonomy.
Dr. Rosenberg is an Associate Professor and Co-Chair of the Psychology Department at Dominican University of California. His research on motivation, persuasion, and responses to autonomy threats has been widely published in leading journals and featured in outlets such as The Guardian, NPR, Scientific American, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
