Buried with the Machine is an evening of screenings and performances at The Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely, Co Wicklow. Taking place from 7pm–10pm on Saturday 5 September, this event marks the closing of Vaari Claffey and Kunstverein Aughrim's summer-long public programme The Clearing. Curated by Claffey and Todd Sekuler, Buried with the Machine features screenings, performances and amuse bouches by Rebecca Barten, Matt Calderwood, Jem Cohen, Megan Conery, David Crowley, Brian Dillon, Amelia Durac, Mikala Dwyer, Liss Fenwick, Barbara Hammer, Brian Hand, Bea McMahon, Jasmine Parsley, Elizabeth Price, Elisabeth Subrin, Nathan Truesdell, and Yuyan Wang.An evening of ghosts tinkering with machines, Buried with the Machine emerges through a reflection on the circumstances of the death of Vaari Claffey’s Great Grandfather, Tinahely native, Timothy Cleary. Described in his obituary as a ‘scientific machinist’, Cleary was an innovator who died in an explosion at his saw mills in 1930, resulting in the burial of himself and his machine, which has not been dug up, til now. The programme explores our (sometimes dangerous) relationship to machinery as it veers towards hybridity; the proclivity to meddle to the point of glitching, and the attachment of the living to the non-living.Information for attendeesBuried with the Machine takes place on the evening on Saturday 5 Setpember from 7pm–10pm at the Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely, Co Wicklow, Y14 XO99. This film programme is not suitable for younger audiences.Getting to Tinahely Tinahely is located in South County Wicklow, 27km from Arklow and 23km from Gorey. An optional minibus is available for attendees traveling from Bray to Tinahely. Pick up is at 6pm at Bray Dart Station. (If you are coming from Dublin we recommend taking the 5pm Dart from Connolly Station.) The minibus will arrive in Tinahely shortly after 7pm. The same bus will return to Bray Dart Station in the evening, departing from Tinahely around 9:40pm to arrive in Bray shortly before 11pm (in time for the last Dart). Tickets for the bus are €20 and can be purchased as an add-on to your reservation.Access The Courthouse Arts Centre is located off Main Street in the town of Tinahely, County Wicklow. The downstairs area is fully accessible and includes accessible toilets.No private car park is available, but free on-street parking surrounds Dwyer Square.Not all of the videos in the screening programme are subtitled.If you have access requirements or any questions for us please email office@kunstverein.ie and our team will get back to you.
