Last Splash of Summer: Mer-Talk & Tales

Last Splash of Summer: Mer-Talk & Tales

Overview

Dive into mermaid stories and chill vibes as we soak up the last bit of summer together!

Dive into an afternoon of mermaid stories, fantasy, imagination and conversation as Moonlight & Mawazo and Coney Island USA present Mer-Talk & Tales, part of the Last Splash of Summer celebration.

Join featured authors Elizabeth Baizel and Sherene Rance for a literary program celebrating mermaids, speculative fiction and the power of imaginative storytelling.

Featuring Elizabeth Baizel

On September 19, Moonlight & Mawazo will premiere Baizel's new original short story, Seals in a Storm, on the Moonlight & Mawazo website.

During Mer-Talk & Tales, Baizel will introduce the story and read selected excerpts, giving the audience an opportunity to experience the new work on the same day as its online debut.

Baizel is a featured participant in Moonlight & Mawazo's literary programming and joins Last Splash of Summer in celebrating stories that expand the worlds—and characters—we encounter in speculative fiction.

Featuring Sherene Rance

Brooklyn-based author, designer and longtime mermaid enthusiast Sherene Rance joins the conversation to share her work and her love of mermaid culture and storytelling.

Rance is the author of the children's mermaid story Aria's Big Wish and has previously participated in Coney Island-area literary and mermaid programming. Her creative work combines storytelling, design, imagination and a passion for building community around fantastical experiences.
