Summary: Join us as we launch our first set of community lecture series! In response to this year’s BHM theme honouring our communities, we aim to engage Black people across London in pressing topics, relevant to the community. We will be covering sustainability, economics, education, connecting back to Africa, the Caribbean and more. Look forward to energetic and fruitful conversations with likeminded people, who want to discuss and improve our community, but haven’t had the opportunity to do it.
Date specific

12th October: On Monday 12th October, join us with Lavinya Stennett to think about how us (Black Brits) can ensure our work goes beyond the UK. With our history, community building doesn’t start and end in Britain. We have communities in Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Barbados; as diasporans, shouldn't we be thinking about how to give back?
During the evening, we’ll be discussing Ghana’s Diaspora Affairs Office, reciprocity and tangible ways to give back.
During the evening, we’ll be discussing Ghana’s Diaspora Affairs Office, reciprocity and tangible ways to give back. Speaker to be announced.
19th October: Join us for our talk with Udoka Maya Okonkwo. This one is urgent, crucial and involves everything. From Hurricane Melissa to our most recently, record-breaking relentless summer – how are Black Brits responding to the climate crisis? What is our relationship to sustainability, and where have our wisdoms on connection to the natural environment gone?
Food insecurity, environmental racism and the climate crisis is real. As diasporans, in a country that heavily contributes to the destruction of our home and families in the Global South – what can we do now?
26th October: Join us for our last talk of the month. We’ll be at Prince of Peckham again with Annabelle Woghiren to think about Black British identity, culture and the crossroads we face. What does it mean to be in community? What does elderhood look like? How do we build more nurturing initiations from adolescence into adulthood?
