Join Da Book Joint and Beyond The Book for a special evening with legendary quarterback, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick as he celebrates the release of his defining memoir, The Perilous Fight.

On September 1, 2016, Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem. The moment became one of the most recognizable acts of protest in modern sports—but the story behind that moment began long before he ever stepped onto an NFL field.

In The Perilous Fight, Kaepernick reflects on growing up as a Black child adopted into a white family, finding refuge and purpose through sports, becoming an elite NFL quarterback, and developing an understanding of the systems and injustices that ultimately led him to take a stand.

Drawing inspiration from figures including Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Huey P. Newton, and Angela Davis, Kaepernick examines the experiences that shaped his worldview and the personal cost of choosing to speak out. From the football field to the fight for racial justice, this memoir offers an intimate look at the man behind one of the most consequential protests in sports history.

This is more than a story about football.

It is a story about identity, courage, sacrifice, activism, and the responsibility we all have to imagine—and fight for—a better future.

ABOUT COLIN KAEPERNICK

Colin Kaepernick is a legendary quarterback, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and education champion whose work continues to bridge sports, activism, storytelling, and community impact.

In 2015, Kaepernick founded Know Your Rights Camp, an organization dedicated to empowering Black and Brown youth through education, systems change, and leadership development. He is also the founder of Kaepernick Publishing and the author of several children's books, including We Are Free, You & Me and the New York Times bestseller I Color Myself Different.

Most recently, he founded Lumi, an AI-driven platform that uses storytelling as a pathway to literacy, with a mission to empower student expression and advance human knowledge and literacy.

As a quarterback, Kaepernick spent six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, leading the team to Super Bowl XLVII and consecutive NFC Championship appearances. He also set the NFL record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single game at the time.

His work has earned numerous honors, including the National Education Association President's Award, GQ's Citizen of the Year, the Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, the ACLU's Eason Monroe Courageous Advocate Award, Amnesty International's Ambassador of Conscience Award, and an Emmy as part of Nike's "Dream Crazy" campaign. His self-produced Netflix documentary series Colin in Black & White received two NAACP Image Awards.

Through his philanthropy, entrepreneurship, storytelling, and advocacy, Kaepernick continues to fight for equal access to the future for all.
