Book Talk and Signing with Dr. Shanéa Thomas

Come celebrate the book release of Accountable Care and Identity Camaraderie for Transgender and Queer Service Providers (Bloomsbury, 2026) with Dr. Shanéa Thomas, LICSW, CSE to discuss the inspiration behind researching burnout and LGBTQ+ identity amongst healthcare providers, how to get organizations to be more proactive in their care to keep the best providers well, and how we all can create paths of legacy to usher in the next generation of community workers during this turbulent time.

This event is for practitioners, advocates, community members, and those looking for a resource to help survive the times we are in. Moderated by Whitman Walker's Peer Support Coordinator, Michael Mitchell, prepare for a night of joy and discussion focused on the wellness of our healthcare and how to protect practitioners so they can stay in the business as long as they want, while also making space for people to join the movement for all.

About Dr. Thomas:

Dr. Shanéa Thomas, LICSW, CSE is a Black queer nonbinary writer, editor, Howard University-trained practitioner, and award-winning Certified Sexuality Educator with 20+ years of clinical experience honoring people's lives through writing, social work practice, and organizational leadership. Dr. Thomas is a leader in higher education, mental health, and LGBTQIA+ healthcare, previously holding professorships at the University of Southern California School of Social Work and the University of Maryland School of Public Health, and served as the Executive Director of Accreditation at the Council on Social Work Education. Today, through Thomas Consulting and Therapeutic Services, Dr. Thomas partners with clinicians, educators, and healthcare leaders to build cultures rooted in empathy, accountability, and transformative growth, with a focus on grief and loss, legacy-building, and equitable institutional strategy. Dr. Thomas' book Accountable Care and Identity Camaraderie for Transgender and Queer Service Providers: Preventing Burnout (Bloomsbury, 2026) challenges that if we are going to continue to uphold these systems of care during these difficult times, that we need for organizations to improve on building a sustainable structure to we can last beyond the current struggles.
