N.I.M.B.A. (New Ideas Make Bold Artists) Culmination Showcase

N.I.M.B.A. — New Ideas Make Bold Artists is a two-phase international cultural exchange created by Delou Africa, Inc. to deepen cultural understanding, strengthen artistic practice, and explore how traditional knowledge can inspire new ideas and creative expression.

The journey began in December 2024, when members of Delou Africa traveled to Guinea, West Africa, to study with AWA Guinean Percussion. During this immersive cultural exchange, the artists expanded their knowledge of Guinean dance and music while learning about the Baga people, their traditions, dances, and the cultural significance of the Nimba mask.

But the journey didn't end when they returned home.

Over the past two years, Delou's artists have continued to study, explore, rehearse, and build upon what they experienced in Guinea. Through the second phase of N.I.M.B.A., that exchange has continued here in South Florida through workshops, conversations, artistic exploration, and opportunities to share this knowledge with our community.

Now, this is Delou's chance to share with YOU what we've been working on.

The N.I.M.B.A. Culmination Concert brings that two-year journey to the stage through an evening of powerful West African dance, drum, music, and cultural storytelling. Audiences will experience work inspired by Delou's time in Guinea, the traditions they encountered, and the new ideas that have emerged through the exchange.

The Nimba mask serves as an important inspiration for the project. Associated with the Baga people of Guinea, Nimba carries meanings connected to fertility, growth, abundance, community, and continuity—ideas that resonate with the purpose of this exchange: honoring what has been passed down while creating space for artists to learn, grow, and carry culture forward.

This concert isn't simply the end of a project. It is an opportunity to witness what can happen when artists travel, study, exchange, return home, and transform what they have learned into something they can share with the next generation and their community.
