Join us online to dive into ancient and modern Gnostic texts and chat about Gnosticism, Hermeticism, Esotericism, etc. with fellow Utahns!

A no-commitment, online-based group of like-minded folks based in Utah who want to meet regularly to read, discuss, share and learn from each other about principles of Gnosticism (Non-Christian and Christian alike) and to mutually grow intellectually and spiritually as we do so. Maybe make some friends along the way.Yes, we will talk about ancient gnostic texts, but will also probably talk about hermeticism, eastern spiritual thought, Judaism, the occult, Western Esotericism, etc.Hoping that we can have a pseudo-book club structure, focused on some of the foundational ancient and modern writings in the fields of Gnostic thought. I have some thoughts on where we might begin, but those who have suggestions are welcome to share them!Why is this group specific to Utah? Mainly, it's ease of access regarding time zones and scheduling. But it could also be nice to be amongst people who "get" having the added layer of nuance and complexity that comes from living in this weird state of ours, regardless of what faith tradition you originate from :) Key mindsets to have:- Open to learning about alternative ideas on spirituality, mysticism, philosophy, theurgy and such-Be non-judgmental of how other people choose to worship, practice or devote themselves. This is hard. Let's talk about it!- Be kind and 100% welcoming to groups of differing backgrounds, including those of all faiths, including non-Christians, the religiously disaffiliated, LGBTQ+ individuals and all races- Don't be antisemitic in any way.- Be willing to help maintain a healthy group culture- DON’T be a creep or a jerk. Hard line on this one.-Just be a nice person, ok?- Be Esotericism-friendly- Be Christ-Neutral or Christ-friendly, even if you don't identify as Christian. It is TOTALLY fine if you don't identify as Christian in any way! Although it's possible to be gnostic without Christ, for the purpose of this group, the topic is going to be on the table. BUT you don't need to believe in him, literally, figuratively or at all. Frankly, it's just hard to talk Gnosticism and the western tradition without addressing him head-on. Also, Christ does not equal church, for the record.-This is not a conversion camp!! No evangelizing for your faith or esoteric tradition please! No prophets or hopeful faith leaders needed here, thanks.-Be willing to share and present information, your thoughts or you own research-Be willing to have your pre-conceptions and opinions challenged.- Be willing to read a variety of writings and contribute to discussions- Be willing to not be an expert, neither in thought or action-Be willing to obtain or borrow (via online, book store, library, etc) the books that we will be reading. No, we will not be reading super-expensive books. Have an email you can access and a phone that receives texts, plz. Have access to a computer. THIS IS NOT :· A church· A bible study group· A religious organization· A non-profit· A for-profit· A political group· Sponsored by any of the above types of groups· A singles group· An M.L.M.· A coven· A "secret order of [x]"· A weird sex thing (or any kind of sex thing)· A satanic cult· Any other alternatively-motivated group you might think of.· A place to find financial support from peers or professionals· A therapy group. We all have problems and sometimes we need professional help. You are encouraged to find assistance with those things, but we kindly ask to help keep this group devoted to its intended cause. **No shade meant if any of the above are your thing, its just not the intent for this group** Thank you for reading.
