Before Disability: A History of American Citizenship
Disabilities studies researcher Sari Altschuler will discuss her book with MGH Writer-in-Residence Suzanne Koven, MD, MFA
During America’s first century, citizens with recognized differences that we now call disabilities were accommodated and often accepted. However, as the country grew, these differences became points of exclusion, resulting in various levels of recognized citizenship. Join us October 19 as we explore the history of disability, race and citizenship over the last 250 years and the surprises that are important for understanding the experience of disability in the past and advocating for rights and justice in the present. A book signing will follow the conversation.
