ALTERATIONS 101: WAIST REDUCTION AND HEMMING FOR PANTS & SKIRTS
Beginner friendly alterations class covering waist reduction and hemming for pants and skirts. Jeans allowed for hemming only.
What this class is about
This class focuses on fixing and altering clothing you already own, not making garments from scratch.
It is ideal for beginners to confident beginners, people who thrift, people whose clothes almost fit, and anyone tired of paying for basic alterations.
What you will learn
In this class, you will learn how to:
- Reduce the waist of pants and skirts
- Identify where to take in garments at the center back or side seams
- Properly pin and mark garments for alteration
- Sew waist reductions using a sewing machine
- Maintain balance and fit when altering garments
- Hem and shorten pants and skirts cleanly and professionally
What to bring
Students should bring:
- One to two garments to alter
- Pants or skirts
- Non denim garments recommended
- Jeans allowed for hemming only
- Sewing machine
- Matching thread
- Pins or clips
- Seam ripper
- Measuring tape
Important Note About Jeans
Please do not bring jeans for waist reduction.
Some home sewing machines cannot handle the thickness of denim for waist alterations. Jean hemming will be demonstrated and practiced. Students may bring jeans for hemming only.
This protects class time and equipment.
