Winter Maritime Wanderers at Portage Lakefront & Riverwalk
Dunes-Calumet Audubon Society for our Winter Maritime Wanderers birding series at the Portage Lakefront & Riverwalk.
The winter months draw maritime wanderers to the Indiana Lakeshore as a stopover before migrating further south or as the deep lake and beaches meet their needs for a wintering area. Bay and sea ducks are attracted to the open, deep waters here, and a variety of gulls and terns may rest or feed on the rocky jettys in this small harbor of Burns Waterway.
The group will meet board president, Kim Ehn, lakeside in front of the Pavilion. Total time about 2-3 hours.
This walk is free and open to the public, but registration is required as capacity is limited. Click on tickets to register through Eventbrite. If you have questions about the walk or are unable to attend, please contact us at julie.bonnema@yahoo.com.
