Four classic Bach motets join with modern sacred choral works & a premiere of a suite by Lauren Hsu.
Join us for an evening of powerful music spanning four centuries of choral genius.
The program centers on four of J.S. Bach’s greatest motets—Jesu, meine Freude; Komm, Jesu, komm; Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden; and Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn. We’re pairing these Baroque masterpieces with contemporary sacred works by Wolfram Buchenberg (Erbarme dich unser) and Willy Burkhard (Ich hebe meine Augen auf zu dem Bergen; Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen).
The concert also features the world premiere of a three-movement suite by Lauren Hsu, featuring the poetry of Xue Tao (Spring Yearning), Sara Teasdale (The River), and Sappho (Tonight, alone).
