2027 Cal-in-Sacramento / Schaeffer Fellowship Info Session

The Matsui Center engages Cal students in public life through internships, public events, and the presence of distinguished campus visitors. In this way, the Center serves as a fitting legacy to Congressman Robert T. Matsui and his belief that public service is a noble profession that should be open to all, a commitment that made him one of California's most important and respected political figures for more than three decades. The Center is strictly nonpartisan.In addition to sponsoring its own events, the Center helps to publicize and support political happenings sponsored by other campus groups and academic departments. The Center works regularly with such organizations as the Cal Berkeley Democrats, the Berkeley College Republicans, the Goldman School of Public Policy, the Graduate School of Journalism, and BerkeleyLaw.The Center is a component of the Institute of Governmental Studies, California’s oldest public policy research institute.

APPLY TO BE A 2027 CAL-IN-SACRAMENTO FELLOW!Application Deadline: Sunday, 10/4 at 11:59pmEligibility: Open to Cal undergraduates (all years and all majors). Accepted Fellows must enroll in a required 3-unit course (PS110B) during Spring 2027.About: Cal-in-Sacramento is one of the University of California’s largest and most prestigious campus-based public service internship programs. For the past five decades, hundreds of Cal students have gone to Sacramento under our auspices to gain first-hand experience in the most dynamic state capital in the country. Many of these students have gone on to careers in politics, government, and public service. Cal-in-Sac Fellows…<ul><li>learn about CA politics and policymaking through spring coursework;</li><li>complete an 8-week summer residency and public service internship in Sacramento;</li><li>receive research training and produce a policy memo;</li><li>receive free housing and a modest living stipend.</li></ul>Want to learn more? APPLY TO BE A 2027 SCHAEFFER FELLOW!Application Deadline: Sunday 10/4 at 11:59pmEligibility: Open to registered UC Berkeley students with sophomore or junior standing (including transfer students). Seniors with at least one semester of full-time undergraduate coursework remaining after completing their internship are also eligible.About: The Matsui Center is pleased to partner with the Leonard D. Schaeffer Fellows in Government Service program to support internship opportunities for undergraduate students in local, state, and federal government. This program provides opportunities for students to practice engaged citizenship and develop an informed view of government service and operations. Schaeffer Fellows…<ul><li>independently secure a 10-week summer internship in local, state, or federal government;</li><li>attend a 3-day professional conference in Washington, DC;</li><li>develop career skills and build a robust professional network;</li><li>receive a $6,000 stipend to help cover living expenses during their internship.</li></ul>Want to learn more?
