After5NewYork-The Assumption Trap: Why We Think We Understand People
Why do we assume we know what someone else is thinking, misread intentions, or decide we understand someone based on surprisingly little?
A Conversation on Assumptions, Perception, and Understanding Other People
Join a UX researcher and strategy leader forThe Assumption Trap: Why We Think We Understand People (and Usually Don't), aan engaging exploration of how we form assumptions about other people, and why our perceptions can be so different from reality. We'll look at how our brains fill in gaps, how our experiences and biases shape the stories we tell ourselves about other people, and why we can feel so certain about someone else's intentions while still being completely wrong.
What We'll Cover:
• Why we make assumptions - Explore how our brains naturally fill in missing information and use past experiences to make sense of other people.
• How we misread others - Discover how context, biases, and limited information can shape the way we interpret someone's behavior, intentions, and decisions.
• How to understand people better - Learn how curiosity, research, and asking better questions can help us challenge our assumptions and get closer to understanding another person's perspective.
Whether you're fascinated by psychology and human behavior or simply curious about why we so often think we know what someone else is thinking, you'll leave with a better understanding of how perception shapes the way we see and interact with other people.
